Social Projects

The atmosphere fostered among the residents and those frequenting activities at Grandpont House aims to encourage a deepening in the spirit of service to others, particularly the less fortunate.

Besides individual initiatives such as visits to local sick or elderly people, Grandpont House supports overseas projects organised from Netherhall House, a student residence in Hampstead, London [
www.nh.netherhall.org.uk]. In five consecutive summers, from 2002 to 2006, groups of students from Netherhall took part in a social initiative in Nicaragua. In the summer of 2007 this activity is being succeeded by a work-camp in South Africa [www.socialprojects.netherhall.org.uk].

The Summer Service Project in northern Romania, is a solidarity initiative by Netherhall Educational Association in Britain and the Fondazione Rui in Italy. It provides the opportunity for students to contribute to the social development of an Eastern European country, while at the same time learning from their culture and way of life. It began in 1991, and since the summer of 2002 some students have been spending a fortnight in August working in two orphanages and in a children’s hospital. For the 2007 work camp contact us at [

Students can also work on summer programmes as teachers, counsellors and sports organisers in central Chicago with Midtown Center, and in the Bronx, New York with Crotona Achievement Program. For more information contact us at [
